Resources on James

James was writing to people whose faith was being tested, and presents us with a vision of the perfect man and woman. When he uses the word ‘perfect’ he does not mean ‘sinless’, but ‘mature’ or ‘fully developed.’ The letter shows us how we can reach this goal, and calls upon us to behave consistently with what we profess to believe, insisting that true faith will be demonstrated by works. Further, it shows how our speech, our desires and pleasures, and our sense of justice are three basic and important parts of the human personality, given to us for our enjoyment and ennoblement by the creator himself. If we are to become mature believers, then by God’s grace these three parts must be brought under the control and direction of the Holy Spirit.
