Who sinned first: Adam or Eve?

This text is from a letter written by David Gooding in 1998.

Your question as to who sinned first, was it Adam or Eve? is a very interesting question.

The answer is to be found in 1 Timothy 2:14 and Romans 5:12–21, especially Romans 5:19. Eve was deceived by the serpent. Adam was not deceived. Adam was, therefore, more guilty than Eve. He did what he did with his eyes open. It was a deliberate disobedience. Eve, of course, was guilty; but in as much as she did what she did under deception from the devil means that she was not so blameworthy as Adam.

Yours sincerely in Christ,
